The province of Youssoufia
....................................................................................................................................
Youssoufia is located 90 kilometers east of Safi, 100 kilometers from Marrakesh and 230 kilometers south of Casablanca. The province has many tourist sites, which attract both national and international visitors. For example...

The Royal Gazelle Reserve
As a biological reserve for M’sabih Talaa, the Royal Gazelle Reserve is one of the oldest wildlife reserves in Morocco. Located in the rural region of Sidi Chiker, 70 kilometers outside of Safi, the reserve is spread out over 1,987 hectares and protects upto 300 Dorcas gazelles, which are native to the Haouz region.

Lake Zima
With an area of 600 hectors, this lake basin is surrounded by hills and is supplied with salt water by the underground circulation of a shallow aquifer from the Chemaia Plain. After becoming saturated with salt clusters, this water reappears at the bottom of the basin. It is then gathered by a pump in order to be evaporated back into the basin. During the months of December through Mars, numerous flamingos are attracted by a rare species of shrimp, the Ol’artmia, which live in this lake.

Douar Laassasla
The inhabitants are known by their rural activity of raising an endangered breed of dog : the Sloughi, specialized in hunting and racing. A Sloughi dog show is organized every year in Safi.

The Hmmer Region
For horse and fantasia lovers, this region is known for its horse breeding as well as the birthplace of Fantasia. In the past centuries, princes from the Alaouite Dynasty would come to learn the equestrian sports here.

The Mosque and Mausoleum of Sidi Chiker
This site is located 103 kilometers south of Safi and 35 kilometers south of Chemaia. One of the oldest monuments in the region of Youssoufia, the mosque and mausoleum were constructed by a close friend of Okba Bnou Nafi al Fihri and date back to the first centry of the Hijra.

In texts from the Middle Ages, this monument was referred to as ribat, named Ribat de Chaker, and had great influence in the 13th century. The site has kept all its beauty and splendour throughout the ages.
